Are there caps or fairness rules?

Yes. Each account can send up to 10 successful referrals per year (accounts where the friend continues past month 1). Beyond that, further referrals still fund meals for both parties but no bonus month credits. This is to prevent the referral program from becoming an income stream for a small number of large accounts — it's designed to reward personal recommendation, not affiliate marketing at scale.

What if my friend cancels within the free first month?

No bonus for you and no extra meals from either side — the referral only counts when the friend continues into a paid month. This is important: we don't want the referral program to incentivize signup churn. If your friend genuinely doesn't like LADLE, that's fine — we'd rather they cancel than be pressured. See /legal/refunds — 7-day full refund still applies to them.

What about anti-abuse — can I sign up a bunch of fake accounts?

Referrals are validated against the actual subscription becoming a paid one, and we run standard duplicate-account detection (same card, same IP, similar email patterns, etc.). Confirmed abuse results in reversal of the bonus month + a warning; repeated abuse results in account termination per /legal/acceptable-use. This isn't the game to try to game; the reward is small enough that gaming it isn't economical.
